Short Assignment #2
Part 1:
The term genre to me means a category for different pieces of writing. For me, many writing pieces in poetry have contributed to this definition. When asked to write about poetry it’s almost a different topic every time and it helped me from my definition of genre. “What is the best genre for your purpose and your audience” is a line that helps me understand their definition. They say that the genre should back up the purpose and the audience of your text and should keep them interested. It slightly differs from mine just by being more specific. They state that it needs to appeal to the audience, while I just said it needs to be a certain topic of the writing.
Part 2:
“Make an impact” by Rick Rigsby is a great commencement address that I’ve watched before. He has great tone and emotion throughout the whole speech and he sticks to his topic. This speech is very similar to Collins speech because of how the message is portrayed. Both speeches they both have an inspiring tone. They both get you ready for life and they all give you a pump for life. A major difference I noticed is Collins speech was more of a list of stuff while Rigsby is more of a chronological story. I can say that both authors have had life changing experiences and both have lots of knowledge.

For all 4 of the other speeches, they all carry the same traits. They all give lots of motivation from past knowledge and experiences they’ve had.
