Short Assignment #1
Part 1:
As a reader and writer I, like many people, find it a lot easier to read and write about a topic when I am passionate about it. Reading is my stronger side vs writing, as I struggled to be a very good writer my entire school career. When I am reading something I am passionate about I really can understand the text and can easily identify anything I am asked about it. Same goes for something I’m not passionate about. It is relatively easy for me to get a good understanding of what is happening but sometimes I may have to re-read the text. But when I am writing my mind starts to wonder and I get stuck on how to word what I am saying.
Some texts that I really enjoy are articles about new car reveals with lots of statistics, numbers and new features about the car. A really good article I was reading the other day was the first documented seeing of the new 2020 Dodge Charger Hellcat widebody. (https://www.motortrend.com/news/2020-dodge-charger-srt-hellcat-widebody-7-things-know/)
A few things that I really like about this article are the clear passion that the writers have. They use lots of descriptions to describe the car and give us a good idea of this new car. Another thing that I like is how they have lots of statistics and numbers about the car. This is more a personal preference because I like articles about statistics. I find them more interesting. Another thing I like is how they have saddle pictures in between their descriptions showing a visual idea of what they’re talking about. I also like how they add background knowledge that others may know if they’ve been keeping up with the cars, like how the car keeps some its features from the 1969 model and older models. Another thing I like is while they are very descriptive on some certain points, they always keep it right to the chase. They don’t add any extra and keep their article right at a short and simple pace.
Part 2:
One part about Billy Collins Speech that I really liked was his bullet point number two about time. “ There really is no time like the present. But there is no time like the past or the future either, so what are you going to do?”. This quote is very interesting because it is open ended. The way he allows you to think about it and leaves you with your own interpretation of it is really good.
I believe this text is successful by the way he always keeps you interested. He has a lot of interesting points to keep his readers interested and always want to keep reading. I would not change anything about this writing because it always kept me interested. There was never a point in the writing where I felt uninterested or lost on what he was talking about. I also liked how a lot of his points were open ended.
